The Heart of Me and My Journey to Healing
I experienced many painful events from early childhood and later as an adult. This journey inspired me to become a therapist. I wish I had the opportunity as a teen to deal with grief, high family conflict, and much more. I am so grateful now for the healing I have been able to encounter in therapy years after the fact. My commitment is to help others overcome with support and validation.
It took me years to let go of my pride and reach out for professional help over 14 years ago. It was not until I was drowning myself after many mistakes, a failed business, failed marriage, and challenges of single parenting that I realized my emotions seemed more in control of me then I over them. I had no idea that anxiety and not working through my own “stuff” had been keeping me from breaking free of my own fears and I was stuck in unhealthy relationship patterns. My journey into counseling with an amazing psychotherapist brought me through with a sense of strength, resiliency, and resolve to help others reach their own place of healing and restoration. It is a continuous path I travel. I believe that living is a life-long journey of learning. I will not pretend to know it all, but I am passionate about exploring your knowledge and sharing mine with you. If I don’t have the information you need, I will work diligently to find it or connect you with someone that does.
My post and pre-graduate experience add up to approximately 20 years in assisting families to connect and heal. I utilize client-centered, realistic, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, creative, exploring roots of behaviors, and trauma-informed practices. I work directly with families to manage emotional and behavioral challenges. My experience includes directly helping trauma survivors as well as helping professionals with workplace stress and secondary trauma. I have worked closely with teens and adults struggling with anxiety, self-harm, depression, and anger issues. My dedication is to create an environment for healing, recovery, and self exploration. I offer practical and creative solutions customized to meet your needs.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado and an active member of the National Board of Certified Counselors. On a personal note, I raised 2 children who are now young adults. I have experienced first hand the struggles of divorce recovery, co-parenting, business ownership, and understand the importance of balancing personal and professional worlds. My favorite activities include basketball, racquetball, swimming, sketching, painting, walking my dog, watching comedy movies, and reading.
